The Anniversary

Presented by ~ Unit One Theatre Co.

The central character in The Anniversary is dear old Mum, a woman whose possessiveness is a killer. She is thoroughly evil and glories in destroying anything that is good and kind and pure; for, not being able to enjoy such feelings herself, she is damned if anyone else will. And yet, like the Devil, Mum has an undeniable charm. This woman would never have been drowned as a witch: she would have been crowned queen.

- Bill MacIlwraith

Mum keeps a tight hold on her three sons, binding them to her with gifts - and threats. But, as the family gathers to celebrate Mum's wedding anniversary, revolt is in the air. Terry tries to gather the courage to tell Mum he's taking his wife and family to live in Canada; Tom breaks the news of his impending marriage - and the there's Henry's little "hobby".

Mum fights back with everything in her formidable armoury - but will it be enough?
