Death Trap

Myra: Sidney,
would you actually kill someone to have another successful play?
Sidney: Don't
be foolish darling, of course I would.
It
is 18 years since playwright Sidney Bruhl last had a successful thriller
on Broadway. He is desperate at the thought of being "written out" and
keenly feels the humiliation of living off his wife's money. When a new
script for a sure-fire hit thriller lands in Sidney's lap, Myra sees it
as an opportunity for her husband to collaborate with the young author
Clifford Anderson, and see his name in lights again.
Sidney would rather have the play to himself and he lovingly eyes the
medieval mace adorning his study wall. In an unbearable atmosphere of
rising tension both Clifford and Myra become convinced that Sidney is
about to commit brutal murder. Sidney reassures them "Deathtrap" isn't
that good. Anyway, would he be so foolish, with Helga Ten Dorp, the
"famous Dutch psychic", as a close neighbour?
