It
was named after Unit One scenes and props man, the magnificent Syd
Wentworth - fondly remembered by one anonymous member as “probably the
most cack-handed, unpractical, downright dangerous handyman that ever
nailed his thumb to the scenery”.
Syd’s
speciality was the so-called 'wank' door handle – a knob
that always came off in your hand! One of the offending handles was
eventually mounted on a plaque to become the prestigious 'Wentworth
Trophy'.
